The view above is of the present St Joseph's Roman Catholic Church on the corner of Station Road and Buchanan Street. The building was erected in 1889 on the site of the old village smithy but for the United Free Church rather than the Roman Catholic Church; it became St Luke's Church of Scotland under the Act of Union in 1929. In 1963 the congregation of St Luke's obtained new premises outside the village centre in Kirk Street, and in 1980 the building was taken over by the congregation of St Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, which had originally been based further north in the village.
The man clothed in yellow standing on the opposite side of Buchanan Street is helping the children of Milngavie Primary School to cross the road in safety.
