Milngavie Primary School

The original 1875 building
The photo above is of Milngavie's original school building, erected in 1875 for children of all ages. Classes P1-P3 (age 4-8) are nowadays accommodated here.

The newer building
This is the newer and larger of the two buildings, built to cope with Milngavie's growth in population at the turn of the century. In later years secondary age pupils studied in Bearsden until Milngavie acquired its own secondary school, Douglas Academy, in 1967. This building now houses P4-P7 (age 7-12).

In common with other Victorian schools, the school rooms are high-ceilinged and the playgrounds are tarmac with no grass.
