Milngavie's public library and community education centre were built on the site of the Ellangowan Paper Mills and their successor the Clyde Paper Company's Milngavie Paper Mill which closed its doors in 1959; the pond in the foreground is a relic of the industrial past here.
Birds on the pond November 2000:
mute swan (resident), mallard duck (resident), tufted duck (winter visitor), goosander (winter visitor), black-headed gull (resident)
A pair of swans nested on the pond during the spring of 2000. Five eggs were laid, four hatched and three of cygnets survived to adulthood.
9 December 2000: the swans were measured and ringed.
